When Suzette Hall picked up the phone that weekend, she had no idea how much her heart was about to expand.
As founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, she’s used to hearing stories of animals in desperate need.
But this one was different — a small, frightened pup had been spotted tied behind an old trailer, all alone, waiting for someone to care.
A Call For Help That Changed Everything
The call came from another rescuer, Kris Kelly of The Kris Kelly Foundation, who had discovered the helpless dog.
No one around the property seemed to be looking after him, and time was running out. Suzette and her volunteer, Arturo Flores, were already out rescuing a group of abandoned chickens nearby.
The moment they heard about the little dog, they dropped everything and rushed toward the trailer park, praying they wouldn’t be too late.
When they arrived, the spot where the pup had been tied was empty. The rope was gone. The fear in Suzette’s chest deepened — she couldn’t leave without knowing what had happened to him.
The Moment Hope Returned
Determined to find the small dog, Suzette and Arturo began knocking on doors. “We just couldn’t walk away,” Suzette later shared.
“Something told us he was still close by.” Moments later, a man opened his trailer door. When asked about the dog, he didn’t hesitate. He simply nodded and said, “Do you want him?”
Before Suzette could even answer, the man disappeared inside and returned with a tiny, trembling bundle in his hands. Without another word, he handed the little dog over and went back inside.
The pup — later named Remi — fit easily into Suzette’s arms, his entire body shaking like a leaf in the wind.
As she held him close, Remi pressed his head against her chest as if he finally knew he was safe. Suzette couldn’t believe how small he was — barely five pounds, fragile and exhausted.
Yet, beneath the fear in his eyes, she saw a spark of trust.
The team wasted no time. They placed Remi gently in their car and drove straight to Camino Pet Hospital, determined to give him the medical care he had clearly been denied for so long.
At the clinic, veterinarians examined him from nose to tail. He was diagnosed with non-contagious mange, a condition that had left his skin itchy and sore.
Fortunately, it was treatable.
As soon as treatment began, Remi seemed to sense that this was the beginning of his new life. His tail gave a shy little wag, and for the first time that day, he looked up with hopeful eyes.
A New Life Filled With Love
Once Remi was cleared for rescue transfer, The Forgotten Dog Foundation stepped in to find him a safe foster home.
Within days, the once-neglected pup was sleeping on clean blankets and learning what it felt like to be loved.
His foster family gave him gentle baths, regular meals, and soft words that reminded him he wasn’t alone anymore.
Under their care, Remi’s fur began to grow back, and his playful spirit slowly returned.
The trembling little dog who once cowered in fear started wagging his tail every morning, greeting each new day with joy. Even the smallest things — a squeaky toy, a kind pat, a walk in the sunshine — made him light up with gratitude.
Suzette often checks in on him and smiles at how far he’s come. “He’s safe now, getting everything he needs,” she said proudly. “And he’s the sweetest little boy you could ever meet.”
Remi still has a bit of healing left to do, both inside and out, but love surrounds him wherever he goes. He’s learning that people can be kind, that food will always be there, and that soft hands mean comfort, not pain.
Soon, when the time is right, he’ll meet the family meant just for him — one that will promise never to let him down again.
For now, he enjoys the warmth of his foster home, soaking in the affection that was once just a dream. His rescuers continue to search for the perfect forever family who will cherish him for the rest of his life.
