Dog Left Alone with Blanket and Food Waits for Family to Return, Exhausted and Heartbroken

Nirvana never expected to be left in an empty lot next to a car wash. When her family abandoned her with a blanket and some food, the loyal dog curled up on her makeshift bed, waiting for them to return.

“She was lying there for two days,” Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy dog rescue, shared with The Dodo.

Workers at the car wash first noticed Nirvana lying on the curb, and when they saw her food supply was running low, they set out a new bag of food and called Hall for help.

Although Nirvana ate the food left for her, she spent most of her time in the lot, exhausted from waiting. She barely reacted when Hall arrived.

“She was so sleepy,” Hall recalled. “She was just so exhausted from waiting.”

Hall approached Nirvana gently, not wanting to startle her. Despite her fatigue, Nirvana stood up and greeted her rescuer with a familiar movement.

“I got a leash around her, and she just wiggled her butt,” Hall said. “She knew someone came to save her.”

Hall took Nirvana to the vet, where the dog received a much-needed bath.

“It just washed away the sadness and everything,” Hall said.

Nirvana’s New Beginning

At the animal hospital, Nirvana quickly won the hearts of everyone there. The staff had seen many animals, but there was something special about her.

“She’s something else,” Hall said. “She’s sweeter than anything.”

They set up a kennel just for her, allowing the dog to settle in and begin her healing journey. While Nirvana was physically healthy, her heart had been broken, and the vet team was determined to fix that.

Within days, Nirvana was placed in a foster home that helped her forget her painful past.

“Her foster mom just loves her,” Hall said. “She totally cuddles at night with her foster mom.”

In addition to cuddling with her new human, Nirvana now enjoys long walks and hikes outdoors. The dog who once lay exhausted is now full of life—and full of zoomies.

“She has a lot of energy now, so she has to get her walks in to get it out of her,” Hall said. “She’s funny, very playful and happy.”

Although Nirvana is still searching for her forever home, she’s making sure her foster family and rescuers know just how much she appreciates them.

“She’s so grateful,” Hall said. “So thankful.”
