Kobe was just a tiny, helpless pup when he was found dumped in a pile of trash with his siblings. He had the odds stacked against him from the beginning.
When we reached out to Tales of Hope Dog Rescue, we asked them to give us the puppy who needed care the most, and they handed us Kobe. From the first moment, we knew his journey would be tough, but Kobe’s spirit was worth every challenge.
Our mornings with Kobe were quiet, filled with tender care and constant attention. He had almost no hair, his skin was covered in scabs, and open sores dotted his fragile body. Yet, there was a spark of life in him.
We took turns, my husband and I, sitting by his side, holding him close to keep him warm, hoping he could feel that he was safe. For the first two weeks, Kobe barely moved—sleeping deeply, regaining his strength, and slowly beginning to trust his new world.
The Road to Recovery and Building Trust
Seeing Kobe finally eat on his own was a triumph. He was still so frail, but the joy in that small action filled our hearts.
“Hello, little fighter,” I whispered to him one day, and for the first time, he met my gaze with a glimmer of his personality. Each day, Kobe showed us he was a fighter, a little warrior determined to overcome.
As the days turned into weeks, Kobe’s wounds started to heal, and his skin began to clear up. After a month, he was finally able to leave quarantine. This was a big moment for him, a chance to meet other dogs and feel a part of something larger than himself.
He had so much to say, barking and wagging his tail like he’d been waiting for this moment forever. It was wonderful to watch him come alive, to see him surrounded by others who accepted him just as he was.
One Saturday, though, we woke up to a terrifying sight. Kobe’s legs were bent in, unable to support him, and he was diagnosed with a severe case of rickets.
The fear in that moment was overwhelming. But we were determined to help him, no matter what it took. We rushed him to an orthopedic specialist who recommended splints to support his legs as they healed.
The splints were tough on Kobe. They were uncomfortable, and he struggled with them, like any little pup would. But despite it all, his spirit stayed bright.
Even with his legs bound, he found ways to play, and that small tail of his never stopped wagging. It was a beautiful reminder of his resilience. In the hardest moments, Kobe’s joy shone through, making everyone around him smile.
Kobe’s Transformation and New Beginning
Two months into his journey, Kobe was finally freed from the splints. Watching him take his first steps without support was nothing short of magical.
He stumbled a little at first, unsure if he could trust his own legs, but soon he took off running. He ran and ran, his tail held high, a testament to his spirit. In that moment, we saw a glimpse of who he was meant to be.
Today, Kobe looks just like any other playful puppy, and it’s amazing to think of how far he’s come. From the day he was found to now, he’s transformed completely.
He loves the outdoors, gets along with children, and adores the company of other dogs. Kobe is ready for a forever home where he can run, play, and be surrounded by the love he deserves.
