When Bobby’s family surrendered him to a Los Angeles shelter, his world was turned upside down.
Gone was the warmth and familiarity of home. Now, Bobby found himself alone in a small, cold kennel, surrounded by the unfamiliar sights and sounds of shelter life.
Despite his loss, Bobby’s spirit remained unbroken.
This sweet, gentle dog was known for his love of belly rubs, and he quickly became a favorite among the shelter staff. But while the staff saw his incredible charm, adopters passed him by. Day after day, Bobby waited, his heart full of hope for a family to love him again.
After a year of waiting, Bobby’s time began to run out. He was placed on the shelter’s euthanasia list.
Saving Bobby’s Life
The news devastated his shelter friends, who couldn’t bear the thought of losing him.
At ten years old, Bobby was still full of life, waiting for a miracle he couldn’t see coming. Determined to give him another chance, shelter staff, and volunteers spread his story far and wide, hoping someone would step in before it was too late.
That someone was Shira Scott Astrof, founder of The Animal Rescue Mission in West Hollywood. When she receives a message about Bobby’s situation, she can’t ignore it. She rushed to the shelter to meet him, ready to change his fate.
For Bobby, seeing Shira was a turning point. He sensed her kindness and knew she was there to help.
“The second I met him, it was like he knew that I was there for him,” Astrof shared with GeoBeats Animals. “He rolled onto his back for belly rubs, and I fell in love with him immediately.”
Astrof promised Bobby he was safe and assured him that no harm would come to him again.
Despite being labeled a “safety concern,” Bobby showed no signs of aggression. Everyone who met him saw only a lovable, gentle soul who yearned for affection. Astrof arranged a foster home and pulled Bobby from the shelter just in time.
The Lovely Dog Celebrates His Freedom
Once freed, Bobby’s joy was contagious. He greeted his new life with a wagging tail and an unbreakable smile.
His rescuer gave him a warm kiss, whispering promises of a life filled with love, comfort, and happiness.
During his shelter days, Bobby had put on weight from lack of activity and excess snacking. But with his newfound freedom, he embraced a healthier lifestyle filled with exercise and play. Soon, Bobby reached a healthy weight and enjoyed activities he hadn’t experienced in a long time—fetch, long naps, and endless belly rubs from his foster mom.
Bobby’s happiness lights up every room he enters, and his grateful heart radiates joy that touches everyone around him.
“He lives completely in the moment. He loves people, even though he has no reason to trust us. He shows us how to appreciate every second,” Astrof said, reflecting on Bobby’s resilience.
Astrof feels saddened that Bobby hasn’t yet found his forever family, but she stays hopeful that the right home is out there.
Now, Bobby waits with patience and hope, ready to share his boundless love with the family that will finally give him a place to call home.
