The streets of Memphis, Tennessee were quiet that winter morning, buried beneath layers of snow. It was the kind of cold that bites through even the thickest coat hung heavy in the air.
But beneath a crumbling corner store, something softer than snow waited in silence.
Two dogs, Moose and Greta, curled tightly against one another, doing their best to survive a world that had forgotten them.
A Door Opens Just in Time
Suzy Hollenbach had seen them before, always in the same place, always together. She worked with All 4s Rescue League and had tried calling for help in the past, but nothing ever changed.

Moose and Greta kept waiting, sleeping in empty lots and behind trash bins. Then came the snowstorm.
When Suzy found them again, the dogs were curled up against the back wall of the store, their fur coated in frost. She reached out to Memphis Animal Services, but the shelters were already full.
Time was running out. So Suzy made the call herself. A volunteer named Rebecca answered without hesitation. Within hours, Moose and Greta were in a warm home.

And when the door closed behind them, the two didn’t bark or explore. They simply lay down, side by side, and slept for an entire day.
They had finally found safety. And in that silence, their hearts began to heal.
Rebecca could only foster for a little while. But someone else was waiting. Her name was Shannon. From the moment Moose and Greta walked into her home, it felt different.
Love Finds A Way
They followed her everywhere. They learned her voice and rested their heads in her lap as if they had always belonged there.
They did not need collars or commands. They just stayed close.

Shannon knew what it meant. She wasn’t just a stop along the way. She was home. And so she adopted them both.

Now the three of them live on a farm filled with sunlight, open fields, and soft beds. Moose and Greta wake each morning knowing they are loved.
Both dogs are never cold. They are never alone. And for the first time in their lives, they are exactly where they were meant to be.
