When rescuers at the Wake County Animal Center (WCAC) first met Cinnamon and Felix, they had to take a second look.
One was a goat with curious brown eyes, the other a cheerful dog with a loyal heart — and yet, they acted as if they had been born as siblings.
A Friendship That Defied Every Expectation
No one at the shelter had ever seen anything quite like it. From the very first day, the two refused to be apart.
Even at night, when staff tried separating them for safety, their distress was impossible to ignore. “We thought they’d rest better in separate spaces, but they wouldn’t allow it,” recalled Dr. Jennifer Federico, the center’s animal services director.
“They cried and pushed against the doors until we reunited them.”

Their bond was immediate and deep — a friendship that blurred every line between species.
Shelter workers quickly realized that Felix and Cinnamon didn’t just share space; they shared comfort, trust, and a sense of belonging that neither could live without.
Life Inside The Shelter — Two Hearts, One Connection
Cinnamon and Felix’s journey to WCAC began after their owner could no longer care for them. Though the shelter typically focuses on cats and dogs, animal control officers explained that this pair was inseparable.
The team didn’t hesitate. If one came in, both would stay.
From the moment they arrived, their connection lit up the shelter. Wherever Felix went, Cinnamon followed — often without a leash or any coaxing.
The goat simply trotted behind her best friend, as though invisible threads tied them together.

At night, they curled up on the same cot, sharing warmth and quiet companionship.
During the day, they’d explore the grounds side by side, with Cinnamon never straying far. When feeding time came and the staff gently separated them for a few minutes, everyone knew what would happen next — Cinnamon’s cries echoed down the hallway, her small horns nudging the door as if demanding her friend back.
“Cinnamon would bleat so loudly that everyone knew she was missing Felix,” Dr. Federico said with a smile. “It was both heartbreaking and beautiful — she just couldn’t stand being apart from him.”

In a place often filled with the sound of lonely animals waiting for homes, this unlikely pair brought a rare light.
Their friendship reminded everyone that love doesn’t need to look the same to be real.
A New Beginning — Together, Always
The shelter team knew exactly what they needed to do: find a home that would welcome both animals together. Breaking their bond wasn’t an option. “Dogs are social, and goats are, too,” Dr. Federico explained. “They both crave connection, and somehow, they found that in each other.”
To make sure they’d end up somewhere safe, WCAC reached out to The Mr. Mo Project, a New York-based rescue group known for helping animals in need.
The collaboration turned out to be the perfect match. Within days, the rescue located a loving adopter who understood how special Cinnamon and Felix truly were.

Their new owner already had a herd of goats and plenty of open space for the duo to roam. She even started building a separate pasture for Cinnamon so she could slowly get used to being around other goats — all while keeping Felix close.
Everything fell into place seamlessly, as if destiny itself had stepped in. “Their new mom has the perfect setup,” Dr. Federico shared joyfully. “Cinnamon will meet new goat friends, but she’ll still have Felix right beside her. They’ll transition together, just as they always have.”
Though no one knows if Cinnamon ever had a herd before, her heart clearly belongs to the dog who never left her side. Shelter staff couldn’t be happier knowing that the two now have a home where their friendship can keep growing.

“We’ve seen many rescues,” Dr. Federico reflected, “but what Felix and Cinnamon share is rare. You can see the love between them. It’s gentle, pure, and exactly what both needed to feel safe again.”
Their story is more than a tale of rescue — it’s proof that companionship can appear in the most unexpected forms.
A goat and a dog may come from different worlds, but for Cinnamon and Felix, their hearts beat to the same rhythm.
And as they begin their new life on a peaceful farm, one thing is certain: wherever Felix runs, Cinnamon will follow, forever his faithful friend.
