When the Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL) team received a heartbreaking photo of a helpless dog lying on a pile of wood, their hearts broke.
The small dog’s fate hung in the balance, with just four haunting words attached to the image: “Dog shot, needs help.” Without hesitation, Cassady, a dedicated SRSL team member, responded, “Bring me that baby.”
The words reflected the urgency and love driving the rescue mission. The little dog stared back at the kind stranger who found her, waiting with a quiet desperation. It wasn’t long before SRSL’s rescue team arrived, gently lifting the frightened pup off the pile of lumber and into their care.
The rescuers could tell she was in pain but wouldn’t know the full extent of her injuries until they reached SRSL’s veterinary hospital. Despite the uncertainty, they held onto hope, believing she would survive this ordeal.
At the hospital, the veterinary team welcomed the dog, who was later named Propeller, with open arms. Their examination revealed that her injury, while serious, could have been much worse. Shrapnel was lodged in her leg, but it miraculously missed her knee joint, vital organs, and spine.
Fortunately, Propeller’s injuries were manageable and wouldn’t cause long-term damage. She underwent emergency surgery to remove the shrapnel, and her recovery was smooth. The team marveled at her luck, knowing she had a guardian angel watching over her.
Propeller was understandably shaken by the trauma, but the love and care she received at SRSL quickly comforted her. The sweet dog soon began to show her true personality, winning the hearts of everyone around her.
“She’s about 2 years old and an absolute love bug,” SRSL shared, highlighting how quickly Propeller warmed up to her new environment.
A month has passed since Propeller’s rescue, and she’s finally back to her playful self. Since her surgery, she’s regained her strength and spends her days running around with her friends at the shelter. But as much as she enjoys her time at SRSL, she’s ready for the next chapter in her life.
The SRSL team is determined to find her the perfect forever home — one with cozy beds, sunny spots to nap in, and loving parents who will shower her with affection every day.
Her rescuers are confident that Propeller will soon find a family who will cherish her. Until then, they’ll continue to enjoy every moment with this sweet miracle dog.
“She is the epitome of love,” SRSL shared. “She’s gentle, graceful, and the most perfect companion anyone could ask for.”
