Pittie Finds Her Miracle After Years of Waiting for Owners Who Never Came Back

Heartbroken Pittie Waits Years for Owners Who Never Return

Among the many dog stories we’ve shared over the years, this one stands out as one of the toughest.

Lindsy, a sweet Pittie girl, arrived at the shelter, gently “knocking” on its door, hoping it would be a short stay until her family came to bring her home. But fate had a different plan.

Instead of being reunited as the happy “lost and found” dog she deserved to be, Lindsy was about to begin the longest and most challenging journey of her life.

Found as a Stray

Lindsy was found by animal control in 2016 as a lost dog and quickly brought to Babylon Animal Shelter in New York. By then, she was already 6 years old, having been a loyal family dog for many years.

It didn’t take long for her family to reach out. A child called the shelter, identifying Lindsy as their Pittie mix, and mentioned, “She’d have to ask her father if they could get her,” according to Kristin Siarkowicz, a BAS staff member.

Hoping for Her Family to Return

Sadly, days turned into weeks… and then months, but the family never returned for Lindsy. There was no follow-up call, no explanation for why they had abandoned their family dog.

It was just that single phone call and then silence.

It was clear to everyone that Lindsy had been left behind, but the shelter staff remained hopeful. Lindsy’s sweet, loving nature and her incredible personality made them confident she would find a home in no time.

A Wonderful Personality, Yet No Interest

There are very few dogs in this world who could match Lindsy’s unwavering spirit. Beyond being incredibly friendly and gentle, Lindsy is truly the cuddliest, most affectionate soul you could ever meet.

“Lindsy wants to be with you, she wants to be where you are, and she wants to participate in what you are doing,” as the BAS staff shared on their Facebook page.

“Lindsy would make a great forever friend for someone who enjoys peaceful walks and a companion to watch TV with. She’s a low-maintenance dog who would love nothing more than a new home to call her own.”

Still, despite her loving nature, no one came forward to adopt this sweet girl. Whether it was because of her breed, which is often misunderstood, or her age—she was entering her senior years—the staff couldn’t pinpoint the reason.

Day after day, Lindsy waited in her kennel, but she never lost hope. She knew her forever home was out there, and she would wait as long as it took.

The Long-Anticipated Miracle After Nearly Three Years

In March 2019, just a few months shy of three long years, Lindsy’s long-awaited miracle finally arrived.

“It has finally happened….. Lindsy has left the building,” the BAS shared in their Facebook post.

The adopters came for her, but before she went to her forever home, Noel’s Dream Bully Rescue, from Waltham, Massachusetts, stepped in to offer Lindsy a helping hand and welcomed her into their program.

She became one of the longest-standing residents at BAS, given the chance to decompress from shelter life and gradually ease back into the comforts of home—and, of course, she did it beautifully.

“Lindsy has already enjoyed peanut butter, soft serve ice cream, walks, a sweater, and lots and lots of hugs, kisses, and snuggles,” the BAS team joyfully reported.

At last, Lindsy made it to her forever home, where she’s now living her best life. Even though she’s a senior, her enthusiasm and cheerful, tail-wagging personality have never wavered.

In December 2019, BAS shared the final photo of Lindsy, capturing her peacefully napping under a cozy blanket on Christmas morning. “Who remembers Lindsy? We got this great photo of Lindsy on Christmas morning. What a life,” BAS wrote.

It was a long and challenging journey, but in the end, Lindsy found exactly what she had been waiting for – a loving home surrounded by people who cherish her for the beautiful soul she is!
