Pup Who Keeps Getting Returned To Shelter Has No Idea Why Nobody Likes Him

It’s easy to think dogs have it easy—but for some, life has been nothing but hardship.

Especially for those without families, many pups face the harsh reality of the streets or the emotional toll of shelter life.

Shelters do what they can, but the noise, confinement, and uncertainty can wear on a dog’s spirit.

That’s what’s happening to Rascal, a sweet soul who’s been through more than most dogs could bear.

Living In Limbo With Nowhere To Go

After being left behind by a rescue organization in Rowland Heights, California, Rascal found himself stuck in limbo. For two years, he remained in a kennel, waiting—hoping—that someone would notice him and offer him the love he desperately longed for.

But time passed, and no one came.

With few options left, the local rescue planned to send him to a county shelter, where the future for older dogs like Rascal is often uncertain.

Fortunately, Rascal’s story took a small turn when Samantha Redline, the founder of Kennel Eviction Rescue (KER), stepped in. Her nonprofit focuses on helping overlooked and abandoned animals, and she couldn’t let Rascal disappear into the system.

Someone Finally Gave Him A Chance

Soon after arriving at KER, Rascal caught the attention of a kind woman. She began working with him through gentle home visits and support from a professional trainer.

At first, everything looked promising. She even bought him toys and took him on hikes. Rascal was responsive, playful, and eager to connect.

KER was hopeful—this could finally be Rascal’s forever home.

But after just a short while, the woman backed out. She told the rescue she no longer had time to care for him.

The news hit hard. Not just for Rascal, but for everyone who had started to believe in his second chance.

“He’s calm, affectionate, and bonds well with people,” Samantha explained in an interview. “He walks great on a leash, loves to play on the flirt pole, and just wants to sit beside someone. He’s such a wonderful companion.”

When Rascal came back to the shelter, it was clear something inside him had changed.

He didn’t rest. Instead, he walked in circles around his kennel, barking in frustration—a behavior he’d never shown before.

It was as if he didn’t understand why he wasn’t good enough.

To give him another shot, KER shared his story on TikTok, hoping it might reach someone who could see the loyal heart behind the sad eyes.

Heartbreak All Over Again

@kennelevictionrescue

Rascal I’m sorry. This person we had been working with for 3 months to make sure it was the right fit and even after multiple meet and greets and so many conversations about the importance of decompression, patience, etc he was still returned after only a week. Why do people do this to them? Why give them and us false hope? Why waste their time? Rascal is a sweetheart and very cuddly. He can be goofy and corky but in all the best ways. He runs like #scoobydoo and loves burgers and eggs. He can be picky with treats but likes meaty ones. When he first left the shelter with the god awful rescue that pulled him he had a bad skin infection. He was allowed 2 weeks with a foster before she removed him from the household and literally dumped him in boarding. When he was abandoned this year we made it our mission to find him and the rest the best homes. Rascal deserves that they all do. Rascal loves the flirt pole and toys that move. He barked at the family’s bunny at first but quickly warmed up. He can be a little sporadic jumping in the air with excitement and has done fine around kids. He settles really well on his bed or in the crate. He knows how to sit and has been introduced to place commands. He’s done well being neutral with dogs present outside the kennels. He’s very curious and can always be seen doing a very investigative sniff with new things. Overall he’s an amazing dog that obviously just needs his right person. He can be adopted almost anywhere in the U.S. if going into a single pet household but will need to stay in SOCAL for a multi pet household. He’s 6 years old, neutered and ready for Ana amazing future. Can you help us give it to him? 💜Email [email protected] 💜Venmo @kennelevictionrescue 💜Paypal @kennelevictionrescue 💜Website kennelevictionrescue.org 💜Wishlist Boarding Babies linked in bio 💜text 626269-9622 #adoption #adoptdontshop #adoptme #adopt #adoptrescueanimals #adoptshelterdogs #adoptseniordogs #rescue #rescuedogs #rescuedog #rescueme #shelter #sheltercrisis #shelterdog #shelterdogs #canine #training #reactive #husky #germansheperd #pitbull #pitbullsofinstagram #pitbulladvocate #pitbulllover #sheperd #abandoned30 #kennelevictionrescue #bettershelter #abandoned #neglected #forgotten #ktla #news #headlines #help #donate

According to KER, Rascal would do best in a home without other animals—though he might be okay with caged pets like rabbits or reptiles. He’s comfortable with both men and women, but he needs someone with patience and time to help him feel safe.

At six years old, Rascal is past the hyper puppy stage, but he still enjoys playtime and regular walks. He’s not high-maintenance—he just wants to be loved.

Rascal has been let down more than once, but he still has hope in his heart.

This Pup Still Believes In Second Chances

KER is doing everything they can to find him a family that won’t walk away this time.

If you or someone you know is looking for a dog who just wants to be someone’s best friend, please consider giving Rascal a home. He’s been waiting long enough.
