We’ve all witnessed the challenges a stray dog must face just to survive. It’s harsh and heartbreaking for them, but unfortunately, that’s often the reality they must endure.
One thing we can learn from their struggles is the incredible strength and resilience of dogs. They continue to fight on, clinging to the slim hope that someone might come to their rescue.
Such was the case for a tiny pup who was on the brink of giving up. She couldn’t even move, trapped in a small box, barely holding on.
Fortunately, her fate took a turn for the better when an incredible person saw her and decided to help.
A Very Sick Pup
When Debbie, a rescuer from Unstoppable Ranch in California, first found Gaby, she couldn’t believe how badly off the little pup was.
Gaby couldn’t move; her breathing was shallow, and it seemed like she didn’t have much time left. How could someone be so cruel to a defenseless creature?
Her condition was critical, so Debbie rushed her to emergency care, where the veterinarians began their treatment.
They did everything they could to give Gaby the best chance at survival. It took some time, but the results were encouraging.
Under the veterinarians’ care, Gaby made significant progress, and it seemed like she was going to be okay. She just needed a little more time.
Slowly but surely, she regained her strength. Though still fragile, her veterinarians helped her learn to walk again. After many days of care, Debbie finally got the good news.
Gaby was healthy and ready to go home, so Debbie brought her into her California home to start a new chapter.
Gaby Lives A Peaceful Life
Debbie noticed something peculiar about Gaby’s walk after she recovered. Whenever she moved, it looked like she was prancing like a pony.
While Debbie found this endearing, she later learned that this gait was due to a neurological condition. This was also likely the reason why Gaby was abandoned.
Although the full details of her abandonment remain unclear, Debbie suspects that her previous owner was a breeder who neglected his dogs, just as he did with Gaby.
While this can’t be confirmed, it seems like a reasonable conclusion, considering Gaby’s state when she was found.
Later, Debbie discovered that Gaby had a cyst caused by a congenital disability. The cyst was located near her cerebellum and affected her motor skills in multiple ways.
Since it was near her cerebellum, it couldn’t be removed. Unfortunately, it’s something Gaby will have to live with for the rest of her life.
The neurologist explained that Gaby’s condition likely wouldn’t cause her many problems other than occasional balance issues. Sometimes, she stumbles, but it’s not a major concern.
She doesn’t feel any pain, and her future looks bright. Now, Gaby enjoys life alongside 11 other special-needs dogs who have become her new companions.
Debbie is overjoyed for Gaby. She’s thrilled to see her making friends and living her best life. After everything she’s been through, Gaby truly deserves to experience peace and happiness.
