Every stray dog dreams of being seen. Sometimes, all it takes is one thoughtful person to stop, look a little closer, and change everything.
Scott and Halley, a caring couple from California, knew that even small gestures could have a deep impact. So when Scott came across something unusual on a remote trail, they followed their instincts. That moment became the beginning of a brand new chapter for a lost dog.
An Unexpected Encounter in the Forest
Scott was biking through a quiet woodland area, far away from homes or traffic. Along the way, he spotted a strange animal moving toward him near the bushes. Unsure of what it was, he paused to observe.
To his surprise, the figure revealed itself to be a black dog. But before Scott could respond, the frightened pup ran off. Since cars were not allowed on the road that day, the couple couldn’t return by vehicle to look for the dog.
Not willing to give up, Scott and Halley made a plan. They returned on foot the following day to search the area again. Halley later wrote on Instagram, “He turned around to help but the pup had run away and the roads were closed so we couldn’t bring a car there to get him.”
While carefully exploring the trail, they noticed a rustling in the bushes nearby. When Halley looked closer, she saw a pair of frightened eyes watching her.
She immediately recognized the same dog from the day before, still too nervous to come closer.
Gaining the Dog’s Trust
Scott and Halley approached slowly and began speaking gently to reassure the pup. He was hesitant but listened closely. When words were not enough, they turned to a familiar trick—treats.

Bringing Him Home and Finding the Perfect Match
Back at their home, the dog quickly settled in. He enjoyed sleeping in a warm bed and no longer had to worry about when his next meal would come. Scott and Halley were happy to care for him, but they also knew someone else might be the perfect fit.
Halley remembered that her in-laws in Colorado had been hoping to adopt a dog. This could be the opportunity they were waiting for.
After a few video calls, Halley’s family was certain. They were ready to welcome him. The couple drove over 15 hours from California to Colorado to bring the dog to his new home. When they arrived, his new family was full of joy.
Halley told, “When they saw him, they were so excited, especially his mom. His parents decided to name him Bonez. He’s warmed up to them pretty quickly.”
