Every dog owner wants to make their pup feel safe, secure, and loved.
We do our best, but sometimes things happen that are simply beyond our control—especially when we don’t know the full story behind a rescue dog’s past.
That’s exactly what happened to one woman who adopted a sweet senior dog named Posie.
She gave her all the love in the world, only to discover something unexpected during a routine vet visit.
Wait… She Was Shot?!

Kelly P. Bergman adopted Posie while she was living in Alabama. The pup was already a senior, and Kelly was surprised by how little anyone knew about her history.
It turned out that Posie had already been in multiple homes, and nobody really knew who her original owner was.
She was likely 13 or even 15 years old—it was hard to say for sure.
Still, Kelly was devoted to her new companion. They moved to New Jersey together, where something unexpected happened.

Posie started coughing a lot, so Kelly took her to the vet for a checkup.
That’s when the vet found something shocking on the X-ray: pellets lodged near her heart—clear signs she had been shot with a BB gun.
Thankfully, the cough had nothing to do with the pellets, and the vet started her on steroids. She’s now recovering well.
Reddit Reacts With Support

After the incident, Kelly shared Posie’s story on Reddit, and the post quickly gained attention from fellow animal lovers.
One commenter wrote: “Omg, people are terrible! I am so sorry. Thank you for adopting an older dog. She must believe she went to heaven when you adopted her.”
It’s hard to understand how someone could harm such a sweet dog.
Another user shared their own story: “I adopted an elderly pitbull and I found out from the vet that someone shot her with duck shot in the lungs. I was so angry.”
Hearing these stories makes your heart ache. No dog should have to endure that kind of cruelty.
Someone else added: “These kinds of things make me hope that instant karma is more than a good song.”
Hopefully, the person who hurt Posie has learned their lesson and isn’t causing harm anymore.
It’s uplifting to see how many people are out there who care deeply about animals and do everything they can to help dogs like Posie live the peaceful lives they deserve.
