It’s heartbreaking for a cherished pet to go from the comfort of a loving home to the overwhelming chaos of a crowded shelter.
For these sweet creatures, it can be a terrifying experience, leaving them confused and afraid. Imagine a dog’s distress, hearing unfamiliar sounds, missing their beloved human, and feeling lost in a world they don’t understand.
In this storm of emotions, shelter staff and volunteers become their lifeline—the only ones offering love, safety, and a warm touch to soothe their fears.
One dog in particular, a shy Pittie mix named Andy Cohen, needed all the comfort he could get.
Introducing Andy Cohen
Not to be confused with the famous American TV host, this gentle soul, also named Andy Cohen.
A Pittie found himself at the Tift County Animal Shelter in Georgia when his owner could no longer care for him.
Andy, along with three other pups, was surrendered in early November 2023. The owner, a truck driver returning to work on the road, could no longer provide for them.
Leah Robinson, the shelter’s rescue coordinator, shared with Newsweek magazine that the owner explained that he was heading back to work as a truck driver and could no longer care for his dogs.
“They were heartbroken when they arrived, all huddled together and scared. Andy Cohen was shy, crying, and feeling abandoned,” she also said.
TClearly frightened and heartbroken, this gentle pup held tightly to the staff member’s leg, refusing to let go. All he wanted was for someone to stay by his side and offer him the love he desperately needed.
In the viral video, you can see this precious dog with a sorrowful expression, clinging to the worker as she softly pets him, offering comfort in his moment of need.
A Thanksgiving Miracle
With the shelter’s efforts to reduce Andy’s stress and fear, they decided to give him a fresh start by transferring him to Waldo’s Rescue Pen, a shelter in New York City.
“We just wanted him to find a home where he could finally be happy,” Leah explained.
And soon, their hopes became a reality.
After Waldo posted Andy’s video, people from all over were touched by his sad story.
It didn’t take long before the perfect family came forward to give him a forever home—right before Thanksgiving.
Now known as Buddy, this once-sad pup found joy again.
“He is now named Buddy and living his best life with his family in NY. We are so happy for Buddy and his family! Thank you for choosing Waldo’s Rescue,” they shared joyfully in the video announcing the heartwarming news.
Living his best life in New York, Buddy even has a furry friend by his side!
To the family that adopted Buddy, “He’s thankful for you. Please keep him safe, and he will never feel abandoned.”
