Every time I come across another heartbreaking story of animal cruelty, it leaves a mark.
Instead of cherishing their pets, some people mistreat and abandon them.
A sweet puppy named Baby Gina knows this pain firsthand. All she ever wanted was love—but what she got was abuse and neglect. Her owners left her behind in a Bronx apartment building without a second thought.
Realizing she was alone, Baby Gina summoned what little strength she had and dragged her tiny paws through the halls, searching for someone who might help.
A Race To Save Baby Gina

One kind-hearted tenant noticed a frail figure wandering the building and decided to follow her.
What she found was heartbreaking: a tiny, skin-and-bones puppy who could barely stand.
Worried for the pup’s life, she contacted NYC Second Chance Rescue, hoping they could intervene in time.
Rescuers arrived quickly and were devastated when they saw her condition.
Baby Gina was immediately rushed to the hospital. She was weak, vomiting, and barely conscious.
Vets ran urgent tests.
She was found to be anemic, with a urinary tract infection, and at risk for refeeding syndrome—a dangerous condition for severely malnourished animals.

A treatment plan was put in place. Her rescuers and veterinary team worked around the clock, determined to give her a fighting chance.
“There are so many unknowns. We are just praying she can pull through. She is just a baby,” Second Chance Rescue shared on Facebook.
Hope Begins To Shine Through

News of Baby Gina’s rescue spread quickly across social media, and soon, people everywhere were cheering her on.
Her caregivers gave her gentle love and care—and Baby Gina responded. She slowly began to heal.

“Gina remains hospitalized and is doing well — she is happy, she is loved and she is recovering. She even has a bunch of new sweaters to keep her warm while she gains weight,” Second Chance shared in a Facebook update.
An investigation is underway to find and prosecute the person responsible for her suffering. Now, she’s finally recovered well and already found a forever home.
She deserves nothing less than a future filled with love, warmth, and joy.
