When the staff at Bloomfield Animal Shelter (BAS) in New Jersey arrived one morning, they were shocked to find two abandoned dogs waiting at the gate.
The dogs gazed up at the rescuers with eyes full of sadness and confusion.
Their expressions spoke volumes, revealing the heartache they felt after seeing their owner walk away, leaving them behind.
As the staff rushed to offer comfort, they discovered the dogs had been tied to a fence, with a heartbreaking note left behind.
The Story of the Dogs
The rescuers’ hearts broke as they read the note left by the dogs’ owner, which said:
“Hi. I am sorry, but my babies deserve to live their golden years happily and in a warm, loving home for the winter. I can’t care for them while living on the street. Our home was foreclosed, and now we’re homeless.”
The owner, filled with desperation, pleaded with the staff not to euthanize the dogs and asked that they be kept together.
As the rescuers read on, they learned that the two dogs were named Shadow and Tiger, brothers born on October 12th, 2009.
The note shared that these sweet pups were kind to other pets and full of love for humans.
In addition, the rescuers were heartbroken, as they had no space available for the abandoned dogs.
In their desperation, they turned to social media, asking for help finding a foster home for Shadow and Tiger.
Luckily, the compassionate team at Scooby-Doo’s Rescue Mission (SDRM) in Lincoln Park, New Jersey, saw the plea and immediately stepped in to welcome the two siblings into their care.
The Siblings Begin to Smile Once More
Moreover, Christine Biggiani Bakelaar, the compassionate owner of the rescue, hurried to the shelter to bring Shadow and Tiger home. The moment she saw their photos, her heart melted at the sorrow in their eyes.
As she picked up the sweet pups, something magical happened—they began to smile as if they understood they would never be abandoned again.
When Christine read the heartfelt note from their previous owner once more, she discovered something that felt like fate: she shared a birthday with Shadow and Tiger. Deep in her heart, she knew that these two were meant to cross her path.
Furthermore, Christine found a peaceful farm where the brothers could heal and start anew.
Once Shadow and Tiger settled into their new foster home, they were given the space and love they needed to adjust, surrounded by warmth and kindness.
Embracing the Love of Their Foster Family
As their caring foster showered them with love and attention, the pups slowly began to understand that they were finally safe.
Additionally, they soaked up every bit of affection their foster family offered, finding comfort in the warmth of their new home.
The rescue in New Jersey hopes to locate the dogs’ previous family to gather more information about their medical history.
Bakelaar couldn’t help but feel heartbroken for the dogs’ former owner. Besides, she genuinely hoped they would reach out, wanting to reassure them that Shadow and Tiger were well and, most importantly, that they would never be separated.
“If anyone here recognizes these dogs or knows their family, please reach out to me. I just want to learn more about them and reassure their owners that their boys are safe. And I promise I will never separate them. Then, I would love for their family to visit them, or at least allow me to send updates…” the rescuer shared in a heartfelt Facebook comment.
Now, the team patiently waits, hoping that the dogs’ previous owners will contact them.
If they don’t, Shadow and Tiger will have to begin a new chapter, searching for the forever home they truly deserve.
For now, these sweet senior pups are thriving in their foster home, basking in love and enjoying the peaceful life on the farm.
