Even though being a rescuer may be one of the most rewarding roles you can have, it’s not without its moments of heartbreak.
Kate is one of those special people who has spent her life opening her home to animals in need. Over the years, she has welcomed countless furry friends, each leaving a unique imprint on her heart.
Yet, there was one pup who stayed with her longer than the rest—Nacho.
A Foster That Changed Everything
When the Nebraska Humane Society reached out to Kate about a puppy in desperate need of a loving home, she didn’t hesitate to bring him in.
For three months, Kate and Nacho were inseparable. Their days were filled with joy, adventure, and the kind of bond that only a true connection can create.
When a family expressed interest in adopting Nacho, Kate couldn’t help but feel a bittersweet mix of emotions. She was happy that he would finally have the family he deserved, but the thought of saying goodbye broke her heart.
Though fostering had prepared her for these goodbyes, Kate moved forward with her life, eventually relocating to Ohio.
What she didn’t expect was that fate had other plans—she would cross paths with this sweet pup once again.
Love Always Finds Its Way Back
While browsing the Nebraska Humane Society’s website one day, Kate was stunned to see a familiar face. It was Nacho!
“A friend told me he was found as a stray. The previous owners were contacted, but they didn’t claim him, so I adopted him right away,” Kate shared with Geobeats.
It didn’t take long for Nacho to settle back into Kate’s life as if he had never left. Having him around felt natural like they had always been meant to be together.
Now, with another pup in the home, watching the two dogs live their best lives together brings Kate endless happiness.
“The first night he got home, he just seemed to know, ‘I’m home. I’m meant to be here.’” she recalled.
Back when Nacho was just a foster, he loved resting his head on Kate’s shoulder. When he did the same thing after being adopted, Kate knew she had found her true soulmate.
“Nacho always needs to be close. He loves cuddling when I’m watching TV, and half of him is on my lap when I’m working. He insists on sleeping in my bed and takes over the whole thing. We’re both healing each other,” she shared.
And as the saying goes, the rest is history.
This beautiful pair is overjoyed that they now have the second chance they both deserve—and they’re making every moment of it count.
