Dog Found Outside Burger King Reunites With Mom In Tearful Scene

On an ordinary day in Monee, Illinois, people noticed a dog tied up outside a Burger King. His deep brown eyes followed every passerby, as though silently pleading for help.

Around his neck was a collar, and fastened to it with a paperclip was a small folded piece of paper.

The note revealed his name was King. It said he was born in July 2018, that he loved hugs, kisses, and was a “good boy.”

Those simple words hinted at a life once filled with affection, yet the fact that he sat abandoned in a parking lot told a different story.

Strangers wondered how a dog described with such warmth could be left behind.

A Lonely Discovery Outside A Restaurant

The group who found him knew they couldn’t walk away.

They called the local police, who gently untied him and brought him to safety. That night, King slept inside the police station, bewildered but safe.

Officers made sure he had food, water, and comfort. By morning, he was transferred to the South Suburban Humane Society, where staff members prepared to uncover who he belonged to — and why he had been left behind.

Shelter workers were immediately struck by King’s gentle nature.

His tail wagged constantly, as if he still believed kindness would lead him home. Soon after, the answer to his mystery walked through the shelter doors. It was his mom.

A Mother’s Heartbreaking Story

Through tears, she explained the truth. Serious medical problems had forced her to move in with relatives while she tried to recover.

She never imagined that one of those family members would betray her. Without telling her, they abandoned King outside the Burger King. When she found out, she was devastated.

She arrived at the shelter carrying his favorite toys, treats, and food.

The moment she saw King, she broke down sobbing.

King ran straight into her arms, smothering her with kisses and clinging to her as if afraid she might disappear again. Everyone in the room could feel the depth of their connection.

Emily Klehm, CEO of the South Suburban Humane Society, described how moving the scene was.

Staff members wiped away tears as they listened to King’s mom recount her struggles. It was clear this dog had been deeply loved, and that their separation had broken both their hearts.

A Future Built On Hope And Kindness

Though King’s mom wanted desperately to take him home, her living situation was still unstable. She feared she might lose him for good.

But the shelter team refused to let that happen. They quickly came together to find a solution.

One of the staff members, who managed the shelter’s spay and neuter clinic, stepped forward to foster King temporarily.

This allowed him to live in a safe, loving home until his mom could welcome him back permanently. It was the lifeline both needed.

In his foster care, King has shown the world that every word written in that note was true. He thrives on hugs, kisses, and snuggles.

His playful and affectionate personality shines through, winning over everyone who meets him.

For his mom, the relief is immense.

She knows King is safe, cared for, and waiting for the day they can be together again.

The shelter has promised their full support, reminding everyone of their mission: to keep pets and people together whenever possible, because pets are family.
