Stray Who Gave Birth in the Rain Is Now Safe and Warm with Her Newborns

A dog can bring all humans the happiest moments in our lives. However, things are not always rainbows and sunshine for them.

Caitlin Evers, an experienced rescuer, knows this all too well. As the founder of Caitie’s Foster Fam, a rescue organization in Houston, Texas, she has saved numerous animals and fostered over 280 dogs.

This is why she didn’t hesitate to act when a shop owner called about a dire situation. A stray dog was forced to give birth on the street during a horrendous downpour.

Even when she has faced many grim stories like this, Caitlin was heartbroken when she saw the dog’s condition.

From Gloomy Skies to Bright Days

According to a TikTok video posted by @caitiesfosterfam, this Basset Hound, later named Bentley, gave birth over the weekend in front of the shop. The employees found them on Monday morning.

In the video, Caitlin mentioned that Houston had experienced severe storms over the weekend, leaving the mama dog and her newborn puppies in strain. Caitlin’s heart sank when she saw them.

Upon arrival, she found eight puppies with their mama. However, in another TikTok video, she explained that Bentley initially had eleven babies, but due to the harsh conditions, three did not survive.

This loss brought Caitlin to tears, but it also fueled her determination to help the surviving family. She carefully gathered them, placed them in her car, and drove them home.

After an immediate bath to rid them of a severe flea infestation, the pup family finally relaxed in a clean, warm bed. Seeing them sleep peacefully in warm blankets was a soothing balm for Caitlin’s soul.

Sadly, one puppy passed away in the following days, which deeply saddened Caitlin. Nevertheless, her dedication ensured a brighter future for the remaining puppies, who thrived more and more each day.

After several days, the Basset Hound family’s life became a true blessing as the sun finally broke through the dark clouds.

Bentley and her puppies—named Ford, Lincoln, Mustang, Audi, Porsche, Jaguar, and Rover by Caitlin—were all moving towards a better future.

They deserved it after everything they had endured.

This poor mama gave birth this weekend alone, on the streets, in the pouring rain. She sought out shelter anywhere she could, and she found her way into a shop. When the workers got there this morning, they saw her with her newborns. They made a space for her to rest with her babies while they reached out to rescues. That’s when I heard about her and rushed that way. The eight surviving puppies are hanging in there. They’re active and nursing. But they were cold and covered in fleas when I got them. We are fighting an uphill battle for sure. There are 5 boys and 3 girls. The smallest girl is about half the size of her littermates and appears much weaker. I’ll continue to give her the best chance, but odds aren’t on her side. It’s going to be tough for all of these babies, but their mama has fought so hard for their survival. So now we’re all here to help them. It’s all up from here. I just updated our rescue Amazon wishlist to include things we need for mama and her babies. Direct link in bio! Overwhelming Support

Caitlin Evers has long shared rescue videos on her TikTok profile, consistently capturing the attention of her many followers and a wider audience.

The story of this Basset Hound family was no different. However, a TikTok video posted on May 7, 2024, garnered exceptional attention and went viral.

Among the numerous comments, a few stood out.

One user wrote, “Having her babies and her with fleas and yet she is still trying to protect them 😭❤️ hoping they all get bigger and stronger.” Another added, “You are an absolute saint. I’m moving to Houston soon and I really really would love to join your organization and help you! You are an angel.

A third commented, “Thank you for helping ❤️”

We should all be grateful for everything Caitlin has done. While the story emphasizes the heroism of the mother and the entire Basset Hound family, none of this would have been possible without Caitlin’s big heart.

She and the kind people who found the canine family during their most difficult moments are the true heroes that brought sunshine after the rain.
