In September, Abby was found abandoned on the streets, hungry, sick, and struggling to survive by eating garbage.
When animal control saw the nearly bald senior dog, thought to be between 10 and 12 years old, they knew she needed more help than they could provide. They reached out to the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana, whose team immediately recognized the potential in this beautiful dog, waiting to shine with the right care and love.
The Road to Recovery
Abby’s rescuers were stunned by her condition. It was hard to imagine how she had survived for so long. Suffering from ear and skin infections, a broken hind leg, and numerous untreated issues, Abby’s condition had clearly been neglected for a long time. Her new friends jumped into action, eager to start her healing process.
“We had to give her daily shampoos and meds to clear her skin infections and treat her ear infections,” Sarrah Walton from the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana shared with The Dodo. “She received so much love and care during this time.”
After undergoing multiple treatments, including surgery, Abby is unrecognizable from the dog she once was. Her transformation is nothing short of amazing.
A New Beginning
When Abby was first rescued, she barely resembled a dog, but today, she’s a fluffy, spunky pup full of life and energy. Her rescuers are in awe of her incredible progress and couldn’t be happier for her.
“She is doing AMAZING,” Walton said. “Abby is spunky and sassy. She’s the queen bee of our little dogs and lives for snuggles and love with volunteers.”
Abby has one last treatment to finish, but after that, she’ll be ready to find her forever family. She’s come such a long way, and everyone who’s been a part of her journey can’t wait for her to find the happy ending she truly deserves.
