Trio Of Abandoned Pups Guard Each Other For Days While Waiting For Help

A resident in Southern California recently contacted Logan’s Legacy Dog Rescue, reporting a trio of pups abandoned in their neighborhood. Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy, couldn’t reach the scene until the end of the day, but luckily, she had friends nearby who were ready to help.

When Hall’s team arrived, they found the pups exactly where the caller described: huddled close together on the sidewalk. The triplets sat with their backs pressed together, watching the world as though they were keeping a watchful eye on each other. Each loyal sibling refused to leave their post.

“They just sat on the corner and waited,” Hall told The Dodo. “They didn’t move because they were waiting for their family to come back.”

A Family Waiting to be Reunited

After speaking to neighbors, Hall’s rescue team learned that the dogs’ family had let them out of their car near Magic Johnson Park in Los Angeles before driving away. The pups ran into the park for safety, but many cars nearly hit them as they bolted across.

“They just ran inside the park and huddled together,” Hall said. “So many cars almost hit them.”

The dogs spent days waiting for their family to return, but no one came. By the time Hall’s team arrived, the pups were nearly out of hope.

Initially, the rescuers found the pups sitting stoically on the sidewalk. As the temperature climbed that morning, the dogs fled to find shelter but stayed close to one another.

“It was hot that day, and there was a car parked in one of the spots,” Hall said. “They went under the car, but they stayed all curled up together.”

The Bond That Wouldn’t Break

Hall and her team typically use humane dog traps to catch strays, but this little family didn’t need one at all.

“My rescuers put some food in their hands and coaxed them over,” Hall said. “They went right to them.”

Two of the pups were hesitant at first, but the only girl in the group trusted her rescuers immediately. Once she was picked up and placed in their van, her two brothers followed eagerly behind her.

“They didn’t want to be without their sister,” Hall said.

When the pups were in the van, the rescuers realized just how neglected they were.

“They were covered in ticks,” Hall said. “They were so matted, and they each had about 40 ticks on them or more.”

Despite their discomfort, the pups were relieved to be reunited. One of the rescuers drove the little family to her home, where they stayed attached throughout the ride.

Once home, the woman shaved down the pups to remove the ticks and mats. They felt much better, but nothing brought them more comfort than snuggling up with their siblings that night.

“They stayed together the whole night,” Hall said.

While it’s not uncommon for stray dogs to form bonds for survival, Hall could tell that these pups were different.

“A lot of times, dogs will be bonded on the street, but then after the rescue, they don’t like each other. They just use each other for safety,” Hall said. “But these guys are definitely bonded. They cry if one goes outside without the other to go potty or anything.”

Now in foster care, the dogs—named Polly, Damien, and Barkley—are still searching for their forever home. It would be amazing if they could all be adopted together, Hall says. “They’re so sweet.”

As Hall continues the search for the perfect family, the little trio remains closer than ever, sticking together through it all.

They don’t have to struggle on the street anymore, but their bond remains unbreakable.
