Last week, as the oppressive autumn heat gripped Los Angeles, California, dog rescuer Suzette Hall received an urgent message from a Good Samaritan. The message described a lone pup left outside an abandoned warehouse with no shelter from the scorching sun.
“She was tied in a business area and left behind in the hot sun…” Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, shared on Facebook. “I was transporting when I got the message, and she was an hour away from me…”
Suzette Hall’s Urgent Response
Hall immediately agreed to rescue the pup once she finished transporting the dog she already had with her. But as she looked at the picture of the shaggy dog, covered in matted fur and tied to a staircase, Hall knew that time was running out to save her.
She reached out to several friends in the area, and one of them, Mary Nakiso, quickly volunteered to help.
“Thank God for Mary Nakiso, my amazing friend,” Hall wrote. “She had just gotten off from work and raced over there.”
A Miraculous Rescue
Nakiso soon arrived at the industrial area filled with businesses and warehouses. With no specific location for the dog, she began searching the buildings, but she couldn’t find the pup. Then, she spotted the staircase from the photos.
“She saw the stairs but didn’t see the pup,” Hall explained. “I was on the phone with her, and all of a sudden, she screamed, ‘I found her!’”
To Hall’s surprise, the dog wasn’t on the staircase where she had been earlier. Instead, Nakiso found her tied to a nearby fence.
“Someone had moved her to a fence and tied her there,” Hall wrote. “With no water all day, she was shaking.”
The Heartwarming Turnaround
The poor dog, later named Brinley, was understandably distressed from both the intense heat and the emotional trauma she had endured. Though Brinley couldn’t share the details of how she ended up there, she clearly showed Nakiso how grateful she was to be found.
“She knew Nakiso was there to help her,” Hall said. “I’m sure all day, she was hoping someone was coming.”
Thankfully, Nakiso reached Brinley just in time to rescue her from the brutal sun. Hall arrived shortly after and took Brinley to Camino Pet Hospital, where the sweet girl received a full checkup and much-needed makeover.
It’s been over a week since Brinley’s rescue, and she is finally starting to feel like herself again. Now in a loving foster home, she enjoys napping in her cozy new bed and receiving endless love from her caregiver.
“She is still a little shut-down, but with an amazing foster who’s making her feel like a princess, she finally knows what love feels like,” Hall shared with The Dodo.
