Forgotten Shelter Dog Was Hours From Euthanasia—Until One Family Stepped In

Every dog dreams of a warm home and a loving family. But sadly, not all of them get that chance.

Many of these helpless souls are left to survive on the streets. Others are lucky enough to find temporary shelter, but even that doesn’t always mean safety.

For some dogs, the harshest reality begins at birth. Shelters, overwhelmed and under-resourced, simply can’t care for every animal that comes through their doors.

When that happens, these innocent beings—mostly dogs—become nothing more than numbers on a euthanasia list. That was exactly the tragic fate awaiting one forgotten pup in Oklahoma City.

A Dog Left in the Shadows

Life isn’t easy for a Bulldog mix. Grimm, a one-year-old English Bulldog mix, knew that all too well.

From the moment he was born, love and happiness were just distant dreams. Before he even had the chance to know what it felt like to be safe, he found himself at Oklahoma City Animal Welfare, a shelter where survival was uncertain.

Shy and deeply withdrawn, he barely interacted with anyone. The staff labeled him “timid, shut down, and avoidant.”

Because of this, potential adopters passed him by. More dogs kept arriving. The shelter filled. And in places like this, mercy is a rare luxury.

Within just five days, Grimm was placed on the euthanasia list. His life was slipping away, and no one even noticed.

For Grimm, it seemed like the world had already forgotten he existed.

A Second Chance Just in Time

Just as his time was about to run out, something incredible happened.

At the last moment, a foster family stepped forward and said “YES” to saving Grimm’s life.

They couldn’t accept that such a young dog—“just a baby”—was about to be euthanized. They opened their home to him, offering a safe place for as long as he needed.

What happened next was nothing short of a miracle.

Grimm didn’t just survive—he thrived.

“Once we got him home and he realized he was safe – he turned into a completely different dog,” @salvage.souls shared in the TikTok video showing Grimm’s transformation from a broken soul into a joyful, thriving pup.

Grimm is looking for his forever people ❤️ We are located in Oklahoma City and welcome out of state adopters. If you’re interested in adopting, please DM ME – I don’t see all the comments….. Also – Please consider visiting your local shelter to find out ways you can help an animal in need. And remember – please do not judge a dog based on their response to being in a shelter. It’s a cold, loud, very scary place for an animal. Adopt don’t shop. #adopt #foster #shelter #dogsoftiktok #rescue #dogs

In the video, they also stressed an important message: dogs should never be judged based on their behavior in shelters. Even the most loving, happy-go-lucky dogs can fall into despair when trapped in a cold, unfamiliar place.

At the end, she wrote: “Grimm is ONLY alive today because someone said YES to fostering him.”

That one YES gave Grimm the gift of life. And now, with hope in his eyes and love in his heart, we know his happiest chapter is still to come—when he finds his forever home.
