Senior Shelter Dog Spends 10 Years Waiting For A Home—And He’s Still Hoping

For rescuers, the goal is always the same: to help every dog find a forever home.

But sometimes, no matter how much effort is poured in, one dog gets overlooked time and time again.

That’s exactly what happened to Ben. Since he was a young puppy, he’s never known what it’s like to live in a warm home with someone who’s his very own.

In 2016, he was transferred to Forever Home Dog Rescue in Washington. His rescuers hoped it would be a short stay. But life had other plans.

Ben’s Unbreakable Spirit

Despite every effort to find him a family, Ben has spent 10 years at the rescue—waiting patiently, day after day.

Through it all, he’s remained a loving, spirited dog. He enjoys spending time with his rescuers and gets along well with other pups.

Still, life in a kennel takes a toll. Sometimes, Ben gets anxious.

His stress shows. He can’t keep toys or blankets in his space—they get torn apart quickly.

Staff members notice how much he lights up when they’re near. To Ben, they’re the closest thing he’s ever had to family.

They try to walk him often, but there’s only so much time. And when those walks end, Ben grows anxious all over again.

Still Hoping, Still Waiting

It’s heartbreaking to watch how much joy he finds in small moments, only to return to the same kennel he’s known all his life.

Ben deserves more than this. He deserves a real home.

Now a senior, Ben’s walks are shorter. He’s happiest simply being with people—just not behind a kennel door.

His rescuers love him dearly. But they know what he needs most is a real family.

At 10 years old, Ben has never had a home. He still dreams of a place where he’s loved every day for the rest of his life.

Fostering has been considered, but most rescuers already have animals, making it tough financially.

For now, Ben waits. But his rescuers remain hopeful that someone out there will see his story and offer him the home he’s always deserved.

Ben is a truly good boy—and he’s ready for the love he’s waited his whole life to receive.
