A shelter is not the right place for dogs, and we all know it. Yet, far too many dogs still find themselves in these cold, dark places.
It’s especially hard for these innocent creatures to cope with the harsh conditions of a kennel after having experienced the warmth of a loving home — and even harder when they are returned to the shelter again and again.
As painful as this reality is, some dogs endure even more heartbreaking fates. One such dog is a Pit Bull mix named Lynch.
This poor boy was recently returned to the shelter in Paris, Kentucky, for the third time.
A Heartbreaking Journey
Paris Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) often shares distressing stories about the dogs that end up in their care. However, the one they shared on November 26, 2024, is not “the typical sad story,” as they put it in their Facebook post.
Lynch’s story began in May 2023, when he arrived at the shelter as a stray. Soon after, his owner reclaimed him, only for him to be returned as a stray again in February 2024, and this time, no one came for him.
A month later, he was adopted, and it seemed like this poor dog finally had found his happy ending.
Sadly, in late November 2024, they learned they were wrong. They received a notification that one of their dogs had been abandoned at another shelter in Paris, Kentucky, about an hour away from them. It was Lynch, and the condition he was in broke their hearts.
“To say we were shocked by the condition of the dog (Lynch) is an understatement,” they wrote in the post.
The last time they saw him, almost ten months ago, he weighed around 65 pounds, but now, he had dropped to just 39.3 pounds.
Lynch’s story is unlike any the shelter staff had encountered before.
A Glimmer of Hope
When the shelter staff saw Lynch, they feared he was beyond repair. Fortunately, that was not the case.
“Despite the neglect our baby faced in such a short time, he has been the happiest dog to see us, and his tail hasn’t stopped wagging,” they wrote.
His eyes, filled with hope, gave them the strength and determination to do everything possible to help him and give him the life he deserves.
“We are giving Lynch lots of love and care while he regains his strength and weight,” they added, “We KNOW this baby deserves the absolute best now more than ever.”
At the same time, the authorities were notified, and an investigation into his abandonment was underway, with hopes that justice would be served.
We’re thrilled to announce that our boy has found his forever family! Moving to a loving home will help him gain weight and thrive, rather than waiting in a shelter. The shelter was overwhelmed by the incredible support and interest in adopting him.
Lynch weighed in at a healthy 42.9 pounds as he headed off to his new adventure. Thank you for joining us!
