Seven Abandoned Puppies Find Hope and Homes After Being Discovered in a Cold Box

7 Abandoned Puppies Left In A Cold Box Are Rescued And Given A Second Chance

It’s incredibly difficult for any true dog lover to witness the heartbreaking realities that our furry companions face every day. From neglect to abuse and abandonment, the situations they endure are beyond comprehension.

One can only imagine the emotional toll on the individuals who dedicate their lives to helping animals. Rescuers and shelter workers encounter heartbreaking moments daily, yet they find the strength to keep going.

This was the case when the staff members at SPCA of Petersburg & Colonial Heights discovered an open chip box and heard faint cries coming from within.

They were devastated but determined to give this story a better ending.

The Forgotten Puppies

When the SPCA staff member in Colonial Heights, Virginia, heard the desperate cries from the box, they feared the worst.

Their suspicions were confirmed when they peeked inside. There, in the cold, were seven helpless puppies abandoned by a heartless person.

“These poor babies are only around two weeks old, eyes barely open or not open at all. They had urine stains and feces stuck to their bodies. THIS IS NOT THE ANSWER!!!!!!” Colonial Heights Animal Control shared in their Facebook post.

Though heartbroken, they were relieved they found them—had they not, the puppies would likely not have survived in temperatures as low as “45-50 degrees that morning.”

They rushed the puppies inside to a warm building, gently cleaned them, and wrapped them in a cozy blanket. With no mother in sight, they knew they had to act quickly to ensure the puppies’ survival.

They called for help.

A New Hope

The SPCA contacted Richmond Ruff House, a rescue organization in Richmond, Virginia. Though their capacity was nearly full, they couldn’t turn their backs on these puppies.

Once the little ones arrived, they were greeted with warm blankets and a comfy bed. Most importantly, a foster dog named Libby was there, willing to nurse them as they lacked a mother to care for them.

“Libby is still nursing her babies, so we thought it was worth a shot to see if they would take to her. So far, no luck. But Libby is definitely willing!!” the rescue shared in their Facebook post.

Without the mother’s milk, the team was left to bottle-feed the puppies, which is not only demanding but also costly. Despite the challenges, the rescuers and volunteers refused to give up on them.

They still needed donations to cover the cost of the feeding formula. Thankfully, many kind-hearted people stepped forward, contributing to ensuring the puppies got the care they so desperately needed.

The puppies are now safe and thriving, thanks to the generosity of so many. While they have made incredible progress, the road ahead is still long before they can find their forever homes.

But we are confident they will eventually find their happily ever after.
