As a powerful working breed with a history going back to the Mastiffs of the Roman legions, can you picture a big, strong Rottweiler being completely spooked by a tiny puppy no bigger than his head?
As funny as it sounds, this world-class guardian didn’t have the nerve to leave the safety of the couch, all because a little puppy wanted to play!
But once he realized she meant no harm, something amazing happened—they formed a bond that’s still going strong today.
This heartwarming story will not only melt your heart but also bring a smile to your face!
In the Beginning, the Couch Was His Sanctuary
A Rottweiler named Dozer and his sister, Lilah, were living in perfect harmony, the best of buddies.
But that all changed when their mom, Kimberly Ward, decided to introduce a new family member to their home in Claremore, Oklahoma.
Enter Daisy, a tiny Frenchie, who caused quite the commotion among the Rottweilers—especially Dozer, who was more than a little shaken by her arrival.
As soon as his new little sister arrived, she was all over Dozer, eager to play every chance she got. But poor Dozer—he just didn’t know what to do with her!
“For the first few days, he was honestly a bit scared of her,” Kimberly Ward shared with The Dodo. “She was so tiny, full of energy, and just bursting with personality… She wanted to play nonstop, but he didn’t realize he could be playful too.“
The more he tried to escape, the more determined Daisy became to chase after him. Eventually, Dozer figured out the one safe spot she couldn’t reach—the couch! With Daisy being so small, there was no way she could climb up there.
For those first few days, the couch was his haven.
She Awakened His Inner Puppy
Daisy’s persistence was unstoppable—there was no way her plan could fail. She would dance around her big brother, nipping at his feet and barking until Dozer finally had no choice but to give in and play.
“The first time he ran with her and realized she’d chase him, it was game on,” Ward shared. “He discovered he could actually interact with her.”
From that moment, their bond only grew stronger. Even though Daisy had way more energy than Dozer, he did his best to keep up with her every step of the way.
They had a blast chasing each other around the couch, running through the yard, and even playing hide and seek under the bed.
What was truly remarkable was how gentle Dozer was with his little sister. “He knew he had to be careful with her because she was so tiny,” Ward explained. Despite his size, he always made sure to be playful without being rough.
Daisy’s playful spirit worked magic in a way no one expected—she managed to bring out the puppy in Dozer.
Her playfulness was her way of showing love, and it turned out to be the perfect language for Dozer to understand.
A Perfect Fit for the New Sister
Dozer and Daisy quickly became the best of buddies, and Daisy fit right into the family like she was always meant to be there. But Ward realized that Daisy needed someone who could keep up with her boundless energy.
Not long after, the family grew again when Mocha joined their Claremore home. Another adorable Frenchie, Mocha, was the perfect match for Daisy’s playful nature and made a sweet little sister for the Rottweilers.
From day one, Daisy absolutely adored her new friend, lovingly nicknamed Mini Mo.
“I bet they play, wrestle, run, and chase each other for two or three hours a day,” Ward shared. “It’s just amazing to watch.”
Just like Daisy, Mocha grew up loving to play with the big boys, but she developed a completely different personality. While Daisy was full of energy, Mocha turned out to be calm and loved nothing more than a good cuddle.
Dozer, just like Daisy, was always gentle with Mini Mo, and sometimes he would even let her win his favorite game of tug-of-war on purpose.
In the end, they all became one big, happy family.
When asked if Ward and her family have considered adding another little sister to the pack, she replied, “There’s always a chance for a tinier sister or brother.” For Dozer and Daisy, the more, the merrier!
