Rescued Dog Who Looked Like A ‘Pile Of Rags’ Makes Miracle Recovery in His New Forever Home

A man was out for a stroll along a canal when he noticed what seemed to be a pile of discarded rags next to a bench. As he drew closer, he was shocked to find it was actually an extremely matted dog.

The poor dog appeared lifeless and unable to move, completely defeated. The man immediately took him home and rushed him to the vet, where he was later transferred into the care of the RSPCA.

A Terrifying Discovery

“When the man who found Morris first came across him, he was lying next to a bench near the canal,” Ryan King, an animal rescuer inspector with the RSPCA, explained in a press release. “As he wasn’t moving, he thought the poor pet was already dead.

On closer inspection, he realized he was breathing, but his fur was so heavy and matted he appeared unable to move and was obviously terrified.”

Morris, the dog, was blind in one eye and suffered from cataracts in the other. Sadly, the vets were unable to save his sight.

His lack of vision, along with his heavily matted fur, made it impossible for him to move. He was unable to escape and waited for a compassionate passerby to come to his aid.

Rescue and Healing Process

“While at the hospital, staff had to shave off 1.3 kilograms of matted fur — which was 10 percent of his overall body weight — as this was preventing him from moving and causing him suffering,” King shared. “Once that was done, he started to feel more comfortable and soon went on to make an incredible transformation.”

After being shaved and cleaned up, Morris began his long journey to recovery, receiving loving care from the RSPCA. A few months later, he was ready to find his forever home. It didn’t take long before he found the perfect family.

A New Beginning for Morris

“We knew he was blind when we took him in, but I have the perfect home for him, and he can get in and out of the garden very easily, so it’s no problem for him,” said Josephine Newhall, Morris’s new mom, in a press release. “I’ve also found out he is deaf, but he doesn’t let these disabilities hold him back at all.”

Morris is thriving in his new home and even has a girlfriend now—Ruby, his mom’s daughter’s dog. From feeling utterly defeated when he was first found, Morris now has a new lease on life.

“He is great company,” Newhall said. “When you think about where he’s come from, it’s a miracle he’s still here.”
