There’s no such thing as a broken dog. It’s all about the circumstances, the care, and the love you pour into helping them become the best companion they can be.
Sadly, not all owners understand this. Some give up too soon, condemning their loyal pets to an unfair and heartbreaking fate.
Godric and Sadie are two dogs who recently faced this devastating reality. Both were surrendered by their owners, with heartbreaking requests for the shelter to end their lives.
Godric’s Journey
Hearts For Paws, based in Davis, California, shared this heartbreaking story on their social media.
A family arrived at Solano County Animal Care, bringing their family dog, a three-year-old Chocolate Lab named Godric, with a shocking request—to euthanize him. According to the family, Godric misbehaved by allegedly biting their baby.
“They brought Godric, the 3-year-old chocolate lab, in and told the shelter he bit the baby who had crawled into his food bowl,” the rescue stated on Instagram.
What the shelter found puzzling was that, since his arrival, Godric had never shown any signs of aggression. He was as sweet as he looked, behaving perfectly around strangers and his caregivers.
Even though the shelter didn’t deny that this tragic incident had occurred, they simply couldn’t justify the family’s request. Rather than rehoming him or surrendering him to the shelter, the family specifically asked for Godric to be euthanized.
Fortunately, recognizing Godric’s true nature, the shelter made the compassionate decision to deny the request.
Then, another heartbreaking surprise unfolded!
A Shocking Twist
One day, Godric was out with his caregivers when he shared a heartwarming moment with another dog. The two appeared to recognize each other, sniffing and wagging their tails.
They later made a shocking discovery. The dog Godric happily greeted was Sadie, a six-year-old Plott Hound who had come from the same family just a month earlier.
Even more heart-wrenching, the family had made the same heartbreaking request for Sadie. They had asked for her to be euthanized because she allegedly growled at their baby.
The dogs shared some beautiful moments, finding comfort in each other’s company, until Godric was joyfully adopted into a new family.
Sadly, Sadie’s journey has been far from ideal. Despite being an amazing dog herself, she missed the chance to be adopted alongside Godric. Now, she remains one of the shelter’s oldest residents, continually overlooked by potential adopters.
“She is a great dog & there is no reason she can’t be adopted! More on her: Sadie is a 6-7 year Plott hound, spayed, good with dogs and people,” HFP shared on social media.
Despite everything, Sadie continues to hold onto hope, believing that her new family is just around the corner.
She was recently transferred to Miranda’s Rescue in Fortuna, California, where she now awaits a fresh start. After all the heartbreak she has faced, Sadie truly deserves a family who will love her unconditionally and welcome her with open arms.
We can only hope that her new beginning comes soon.
