Sora, a black Labrador Pitbull mix, arrived at Valley Animal Center—one of the largest no-euthanasia shelters in Fresno, California—nearly four years ago when her previous owner was no longer able to care for her.
For years, Sora has been waiting for a family to call her own, but sadly, her potential adopters have overlooked her.
Recently, it seemed her time had finally come, and Sora was about to embark on her new life with a forever family. Excitement filled the shelter as she left with her new adopter. Tragically, that happiness was short-lived, as she was returned to the shelter in less than 24 hours.
Found A Home After 900+ Days In The Shelter
Valley Animal Center says Sora’s previous owner surrendered her in 2021 after realizing she needed more time and training than they could provide.
“Sora is full of life and perfect for someone with an active lifestyle,” the shelter shared on their Facebook page. “She’s the kind of dog who’d love long walks or bike rides and can keep up with any pace. Sadly, she’s spent almost four years in a kennel.”
Despite being a sweet and loving dog, Sora has spent nearly four years at the shelter without serious interest from adopters.
When someone finally expressed interest in giving her a home, hope and joy filled the staff. Everyone believed her wait was over.
Sora herself seemed over the moon with the chance to leave the shelter, thinking her dreams had come true. But, heartbreakingly, it wasn’t meant to be.
Just a day after her adoption, the new owner contacted the shelter, saying they could no longer keep Sora. The heartbreak was immense for everyone, especially Sora, who was once again left waiting for the love she so desperately deserved.
“Sora did not get enough time to decompress in her new home and was introduced to new family members too quickly,” Sim Kaur from Valley Animal Center shared with Newsweek.
Sora has now spent over 900 days behind kennel bars. It’s a life that no dog deserves, and it has taken a toll on her emotionally.
A Chance At Love Again
Sora is still waiting for the right family to find her. She needs someone to give her love and patience.
It’s clear that no shelter, no matter how caring, can match the joy of a loving home. A dog feels true happiness only in a home filled with love.
Although shelters do their best to provide the dogs with love and physical enrichment, they often fall short of what these animals truly need.
For Sora, spending nearly four years in the shelter has sadly taken its toll, leading to anxious behaviors.
“Our certified dog trainer, Mariah Prudhume, believes that if Sora were placed in a loving home, her mental health would greatly improve. With patience and care, she wouldn’t be the reactive dog she’s become, and she’d blossom into the joyful, playful pup she’s meant to be,” the Valley Animal Center shared on Instagram.
Sora is a wonderful dog who simply needs a real chance.
She keeps waiting for her forever family. She needs someone to love, cherish, and never give up on her.
Sora is great with people and children over five. She needs a home where she’s the only pet. Her family must dedicate time to train her.
Are you the one to bring Sora into your life and show her what real love feels like?
Valley Animal Center believes there’s still hope for this precious girl, and so do we.
