Saved from the Streets
In June 2022, rescuers discovered a sweet senior Chihuahua named Twinkle wandering the streets of Miami, Florida. She was taken in by True and Faithful Pet Rescue Mission, a shelter dedicated to rescuing senior and unwanted dogs from high-euthanasia situations.
Upon her arrival, Twinkle was underweight, suffering from severe dental problems, and had a severe skin infection that left her nearly hairless. Additionally, she required surgery to remove her mammary tumors.
Fortunately, the surgery was successful, and after a few weeks, Twinkle made a full recovery and began to regain her strength. She was eager to embrace her new life.
In September 2022, the rescue announced that Twinkle had found a home. Her new family seemed wonderful, and everyone at the shelter believed they would finally give her the love she truly deserved.
However, just four months later, her family returned her to the rescue. They chose to give her up because she wanted to snuggle with them in bed.
They also had other senior Chihuahuas that they did not allow to sleep in their bed.
Heartbroken Twinkle
When her parents arrived at the shelter to give her up, they simply handed Twinkle over the fence and walked away. Twinkle stared at the fence, watching them leave her life behind, her heart shattered.
“Twinkle was utterly devastated and bewildered. I recall walking into the main dog room and finding her huddled in the corner on a dog bed, trembling with fear. Her face was filled with confusion, and you could see the pain in her eyes,” shared Madison Mulvihill, social media coordinator at True and Faithful Pet Rescue Mission.
Twinkle, an exceptionally well-behaved dog, only desired love and cuddles, but her parents could not provide them for her.
Upon learning what had happened to Twinkle, everyone at the rescue was heartbroken. They cared for her deeply and couldn’t comprehend how anyone could abandon such a loving dog.
“Twinkle is not only incredibly cute, but she also has a vibrant personality despite weighing just 3-and-a-half pounds. She adores attention and isn’t shy about approaching you when she craves affection. She’s full of joy, and her little hops are absolutely adorable as she moves through the grass at the ranch,” Mulvihill shared.
Determined to assist her, her friends created a TikTok video to share her story, hoping it would lead to her finding a loving forever home.
True Love
Twinkle captured the hearts of millions, leading to an overwhelming number of adoption requests at the rescue. Her new family traveled all the way from South Carolina to bring her home.
They are wonderful, and now Twinkle has six furry siblings. She enjoys a king-size bed, and her new parents assure her that she can snuggle with them as much as she likes.
