One thing that is often seen in dogs who are lost or living on the street is that many of them will quietly ask for help from humans.
In most cases, dogs tend to be hesitant about getting too close to people. Instead, they wait and hope that someone will notice them and offer help.
This is the story of a dog who spent his days in front of a school, quietly waiting for someone to rescue him from his difficult life.
A Quiet, Hopeful Wait
As Caleb Schaffer, a teacher at an elementary school in Houston, Texas, was arriving for work, he saw a dog at the entrance. He wondered what the dog was doing there.
The dog was wagging his tail and seemed eager to see the man. However, Schaffer was in a rush to start teaching, so he had to leave the dog behind.
He later shared in an interview: “He was sitting right outside the main door, and his tail started thumping when he saw me.”
Though Schaffer went on with his day, the thought of the dog stayed with him, so after class, he returned to see if the dog was still there.
To his surprise, the dog was nowhere to be seen. Apparently, local animal shelter staff had tried to catch him, but they spooked him away.
Yet, the next morning, the dog was back at the school entrance, and the same scene played out once again.
This time, Schaffer noticed just how bad the dog’s skin looked and how underweight he was, which made him more determined to help the dog the next time he appeared.
A New Beginning
The third day came, and once again, the same situation unfolded. Schaffer knew he couldn’t let the dog go this time. He took the dog to his car and brought him to his house, asking his wife to keep him company while he finished his day at work.
Once school was over, Schaffer contacted local rescue organizations in Texas, hoping to find a solution, but they were all overwhelmed.
Realizing he had to act quickly, he decided to take the dog to his local animal shelter for medical attention and a much-needed bath.
Schaffer said: “I figured some basic vet care at the shelter was better than nothing. He was really suffering.”
The dog, named Clive, quickly gained attention after his story was shared on Facebook. It caught the eye of Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption, which found foster care for him right away.
Time has passed since Clive was placed in foster care, but Schaffer continues to share this story with his students, reminding them about the importance of helping stray animals.
He said: “There are so many strays everywhere here. It’s given me an opportunity to talk about spaying, neutering, heartworm prevention, and the reality of shelters.”
Although it’s unclear whether Clive was eventually adopted, one thing remains certain: he is a kind and happy dog who deserves all the love in the world.
